This is from “Red Dog” in The Second Jungle Book, a lesson how to deal wuth aggressive invaders. Mowgl’s wolved are threatened by a big pack of dholes, wild red dolls, dangerous fighters and killers. Mowgli is considering how they can be beaten. At ease in a rock pool he has asked Kaa, the great rock-python, who is thinking back over his many uears. He tells Mowgli to lead the dholes into a gorge above the river, which for generation has been the home of wild bees.. and where no animals are safe. This he does, and many of them perish. There follows a great fight in which Akela is killed, but the dholes are driven out. |
