Quotes Absent-minded

When you’ve shouted “Rule Britannia,”
When you’ve sung “God save the Queen,”
When you’ve finished killing Kruger with your mouth,
Will you kindly drop a shilling in my little tambourine

This is from “The Absent-minded Beggar” published in the Daily Mail soon after the outbreak of the South Adrucan War in 1899, as part of a campaign to raise money for soldiers’ families.  It was brilliantly successful.
