This is from “They” in Traffics and Discoveries. The storyteller describes a car journey to the west, to a stately old house in the woods, the home of a beautiful blind lady, where he has been before. As before he catches a glimpse of several little children in the gardens; but this time he realises that they are the ghosts of the dead, and he senses the presence of his own lost little daughter…
