This poem is the heading to Chapter VIII of “The Naulahka” , and is one of the four headings in this book described as from ‘The Libretto of Naulahka (Chorus)’. It is collected in in Songs from Books and later collections as a Chapter Heading.

Notes on the Text

[line 3]  Azrael is the Angel of Death in Muslim mythology.

[line 7]  and to lesser compass round  Become smaller so that the distamce is the lesser.
