To Members'

This conference was held in Cambridge one hundred years after the publication of Kim, Kipling’s acknowledged masterpiece. Some sixty delegates came from around the world, from countries ranging from New Zealand to Argentina, and including the United States, Japan, South Africa, Turkey and several different European countries.

Thirty-five papers were presented, within the following broad themes: Kim itself; Kipling in Translation; Kipling and Film; Kipling and Women; and finally - but, it proved, pre-dominantly - Kipling and Empire – or what can be called Postcolonial Kipling. The Conference Secretary and organiser was Dr Jeffery Lewins, Praelector and formerly Kipling Fellow, Magdalene College, Cambridge.
